for sellers

Selling a boat in any market can be a confusing and frustrating experience, particularly in the “Buyer’s Market” we have been experiencing.

Careful attention needs to be paid when selecting the right broker to get the job done.

The decision to select the proper broker should not be complicated and it should not be an emotional one.  The yacht brokerage market is a national market and although some boats are sold on a local level, the majority of boats over 30 foot and over $100,000 are sold to national and international clients.

One of the most important considerations in selecting the right broker or brokerage firm is their ability to easily access the entire market.  They should be able to network effortlessly within the market place to obtain and distribute information

Your “local” broker simply cannot afford to promote their business and their client’s boat effectively.  There are approximately a dozen brokerages in the country that can be considered “national” brokerages.

United Yacht Sales has become one of the largest and most effective brokerage firms in the country.  There are over 75 brokers affiliated with the company who sold over $100,000,000 in 2007.  There are over 500 listings in house with a value over $125,000,000.  The reasons for this growth and overall influence in the market place are the same reasons why a boat buyer or seller, would choose to do business with a broker or brokerage affiliated with United Yacht Sales.

Advertising—Consistent and substantial amounts of advertising in national marine publications such as Power & Motor Yacht, Sail, Southern Boating, Passage Maker, Soundings, Boat International, Sea and others!

Multiple Listing Services—Listings are entered in 17 different databases, not 1 or 2.  Why would a seller list with a brokerage that doesn’t take full advantage of the Internet?

Boat Shows—We participate in more major shows than any other brokerage firm in the country.  We not only display local boats at these shows, we promote all our listings in every region of the country with detailed and professional brokerage displays.  Shows include Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, Palm Beach, Annapolis, Texas International, New York, St. Pete, Newport, Sarasota, Suart, Pensacola, Panama City, and many other regional shows! Why would a seller list a boat with a company that only displays in 1 or 2 shows, limiting the boat’s exposure?

Client Special Events—United Yacht Sales is the founding sponsor of a non-invitational, no kill, billfish tournament known as the Abaco Billfish Challenge (The ABC) held annually in Marsh Harbor, Aboco Island, Bahamas from June 12-15.  The sponsors, tournament directors, and participants raised $300,000 for charity benefiting the handicapped children of the Bahamas!  See more at www.fishabc.com

Experienced Brokers—United Yacht Sales consists of nearly 80 brokers and brokerage firms with a combined experience of over 1000 years in the brokerage business.  Why would you take advice from a broker that has little or no experience in the yacht brokerage business?

Independent Contractors—Our brokers are truly independent contractors and make their own decisions.  They are not simply representatives with a larger corporation where decisions are quite often not made by the broker but by people further up the corporate ladder.  When the client speaks with a United Yacht Sales Broker, that client is speaking with a decision maker.  Whey would a seller want to negotiate with a broker that does not have the authority to make a decision?

Brokers—not salespeople.  We broker transactions and do not attempt to sell our clients on any particular new boat line.  Why would a buyer take advice from an individual whose first priority is to sell the client a new boat?  Why would a seller list with someone whose first priority is to sell a new boat and where brokerage boats take a back seat?

Teamwork—United Yacht Sales has over 13 offices located in key yachting centers throughout the country.  Our brokers and staff work as a team to the benefit of all our clients!  Why would a buyer or seller want to work with someone who has not network of colleagues to turn to for help?  We do not compete with our colleagues—we help each other which in turn helps the client!
